5 Signs You Might Have Dry Eye

5 Signs You Might Have Dry Eye

Dry eyes are not only annoying but can be quite painful. This condition is often caused by pollen in the air and its symptoms tend to lessen when seasons change. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a licensed eye care professional for a thorough eye exam.

Sensitivity to Light

Do your eyes burn or try to shut themselves the second you are exposed to sunlight or bright light? Sunglasses may reduce some of the pain related to this light sensitivity, but are only a short-term solution.

Red Eyes

Do you wake up with red eyes? Over the counter eye drops may relieve red eyes sometimes, but when you have dry eye, prescription eye drops are often required to relieve the redness.

Difficulty with Contact Lenses

Contact lenses can slightly irritate your eyes when inserted, but that irritation can go away within seconds. If you are experiencing discomfort while your contacts are in, take them out immediately, and wash your eyes.

Burning in Your Eyes

Those suffering from dry eye may sometimes feel a burning sensation when blinking. Washing your eyes out with water may help, but depending on the severity, prescription eye drops may be needed.

Feeling That Something is in Your Eye

If you feel there is something in your eye leading you to rub them, is another potential sign of dry eye.  The lack of tear production can cause the feeling of something being stuck in your eye. Avoid rubbing your eyes as this will only make it worse.
