Family Vision Center Helps to Keep an “Eye on Success” at Bridgeport Elementary Schools

During the past four months, Family Vision Center focused its community outreach efforts on educating the parents of elementary-aged school children about maintaining healthy eye care and preventing vision problems through its Eye on Success campaign. We are grateful for our community partnership with Bridgeport elementary schools and the efforts of Lisa Pavlich-Kuhn, Bridgeport’s Parent Center Coordinator.

The American Optometric Association (AOA) estimates that as much as 80% of the learning a child does occurs through his or her eyes and when his or her vision is not functioning properly, education can severely suffer. To create awareness around the value of healthy eye care, Family Vision Center created monthly educational emails that reached the families in all 30 of the Bridgeport elementary schools. In addition, each email was printer-friendly, allowing the schools to dispense hard copies of the information.

“Our partnership with Family Vision Center allowed the Parent Center a wonderful opportunity to inform families in the Bridgeport school district of all the resources and services available to them,” Lisa said. “We look forward to future initiatives with Family Vision Center that continue to engage our parents and educate our children.”

This holiday season, Family Vision Center asks for your continued support in bringing healthy eye care to Connecticut schools by giving your student the gift of good vision. All children deserve a clear future and you can make sure your child has the tools needed to succeed in school and later in life. Please make it your New Year’s resolution to:

  • Have your child wear proper eye wear in sports.
  • Limit your child’s TV and computer screen time.
  • Pay attention to symptoms of vision problems.
  • Schedule a yearly eye exam for your child.

“Family Vision Center is extremely proud to have formed such important partnerships with Bridgeport’s elementary schools,” Kristine Heslin, Owner/Managing Partner at Family Vision Center, said. “It is our hope that the ‘Eye on Success’ campaign, along with previous community outreach efforts, have raised awareness and helped students thrive. The gift of sight can completely change someone’s life. From our family to yours, thank you for your support in 2015. We wish you good vision, a happy holiday and a healthy 2016.”
