A Practice She Can Count On: Ruby Martin and her Family Vision Center Memories

At age 54, Ruby Martin still fondly recalls her routine visits to Family Vision Center as a teenager. She can picture the Boston Avenue location in Bridgeport, and best of all, she remembers Dr. Gorman’s welcoming smile.

“When I first heard Dr. Gorman was retiring, I was upset. He’s not like a doctor, he’s more like a friend,” Ruby said. “He was so attentive and made me feel like I was his only patient. I truly enjoyed my appointments and really looked forward to them.”

Ruby still goes to Family Vision Center-Bridgeport for her appointments, but when Dr. Gorman was her optometrist, she would drive to the Stratford location if it meant seeing him. She always requested him and worked her schedule around him. As much as she misses Dr. Gorman, the rest of the Family Vision Center doctors and staff have made her transition almost seamless.

“I’ve seen several of the other doctors recently and I liked them all so much, I’m willing to book my appointments with whoever is available,” Ruby said. “My experiences at Family Vision Center have consistently been nothing but positive. It’s the staff and their flawless patient care that keeps me coming back.”

Ruby intends on being a lifelong patient at Family Vision Center and is not surprised the practice is celebrating 50 years in business. Thanks to Dr. Gorman’s leadership and the staff’s continued efforts since his retirement, longtime patients like Ruby are not uncommon. Ruby muses that, 50 years from now, another now teenage patient will be fondly recalling her visits to Family Vision Center as a grown woman. She is grateful for a practice she can count on and looks forward to many more years as a loyal Family Vision Center patient.
